Hungry for Change

Easter time is a tough time for me – I love Easter candy – I always have and many times consume way too many calories and sugar. I was tested to the max this last week.

I hate going into any kind of store like Walmart this time of year – Easter Candy – yeah – definitely a huge temptation for me. Marshmallow Peeps – get out! Yes – I eat the whole package. It’s just air, right? So I’m right there and I actually picked up the package of chick peeps and fully intended to buy them (noon – so I was very hungry!). Okay, I paused and my subconscious told me to read the ingredients. Ouch! So much sugar! Who cares about the fat at 0 or even the calories at 130. There are 12 peeps in a pkg. I cannot stop at 1, 2, 3 or 4 – so when I do consume that whole pkg. of peeps in one day, I would have consumed 390 in calories (not ridiculous); but I would also consume 89 grams of sugar! Daily recommendation is 32 grams. I was headed for a huge headache, upset stomach and probably 1 lb. up the next day. I put the peeps down and walked away. Whew – close call!

My main motivator though to not buy the peeps was going home to Nebraska for Easter to see my family. I have a goal to lose 2 more pounds. This was not going to help me meet my goal. I’m proud of my success that day; and I also know I should not go to store when I’m hungry – the temptation is too strong and I am very weak at times. Next time you are in the store, before you buy, read the label - you may change your mind!

If you want to watch a great documentary on sugar and how we are starving to death on the inside I highly recommend this video: http://www.hungryforchange.tv/online-premiere Lynette
